The Preschool - Step Ahead Curriculum

Room Structure

Our Pre-School room has a 1:8 teacher/child ratio.

All of our environments foster courtesy, respect, responsibility and the development of confidence.

Room Schedule

Toddler'sYour child’s preschool program is based on research that has shown what is appropriate for growth and development from infancy to school age. Children learn best through play and active hands-on involvement with learning materials. Our goal is to make each child’s day both positive and enriching.

Our Step Ahead program builds social, emotional and physical skills in a small group setting through cognitive tasks and individual achievement. It is designed to prepare each young child for a successful experience in Junior and Senior Kindergarten.

An introduction to reading is promoted through storytelling, games, dramatic play, art, music and learning circles.

  • An introduction to mathematics challenges young minds to use games, manipulatives and tools to understand simple measurement, number concepts, sequencing, classifying and the concept of addition and subtraction.
  • An introduction to science and technology includes exploration of the environment using all five senses, hands-on experimentation, the collection and sorting of various materials, and the use of stimulating computer activities.
  • Language development is enhanced through rhyming, listening to stories and poetry and language experiences that include the children writing their own stories.
  • Music experiences include experimenting with sounds, rhythms and creative movement.
  • Creative arts encourages self expression through the hands-on experimentation and manipulation of an assortment of mediums.
  • Personal and Social development focuses on cooperative play enhanced through exploring feelings, questioning, communicating and developing problem solving skills.
